Welcome to the new site. I hope this will be a place for the open discussion of all things related to consciousness, consciousness studies, philosophical and mystical considerations including implications of quantum physics and Godel’s Incompleteness Theorem.
Depending on how consciousness is defined, the overall scope of discussion here could be quite large.
Comments and ideas from readers are most welcome!
I appreciate your reference to Kurt Gödel. He allows us to understand that while the contents of the box may appear to be a complete system when viewed from one perspective, from another perspective it is but one collection of answers to an infinity of possible questions about the contents of that same box. As a metaphor to consciousness, it also helps us appreciate that the sum of all known consciousness manifestations could not even begin to add up to the infinite potential that lies in the ever unfolding mystery of consciousness. I also appreciate your sharing in this consciousness blog, and look forward to new installments.
I agree entirely with your point that Godel brings much to the table regarding the discussion of consciousness. His work has been little appreciated by many in the brain research fields, but his predictions on the limitations of systems has, at least to date, been quite accurate in predicting the limitations in Artificial Intelligence research. Interestingly, Godel actually believed he had found a proof of Platonism/Objectivism, but apparently never wrote it down [at least according to Wang, one of his biographers].
